There is a lot of talk these days about a certain player this with the Chunichi Dragons. In Nagoya, a newly acquired Cuban is stealing the news headlines and quite a few journalists are placing him in the opening day lineup.
Japanese colleague Yuichi Terawaki reported on his personal social media page that “Former Chunichi Dragons outfielder Ryosuke Hirata predicted the starting lineup for the opening game using his own criteria on a Japanese television station. “Based on his performance in the preseason games, there is a possibility that Christian Rodríguez will be the starting shortstop due his high talent ceiling very attractive,” said the club legend about the Villa Clara native.

Christian has excellent range on defense and can play at second, third or his natural position which is shortstop. In recent international events he has been a member of the Cuba team in the Sub-23 category and was also chosen as a reinforcement by Guillermo Carmona for Industriales in the second Liga Élite of Cuban Baseball League.
Of the Leones’ reinforcements, he was the one who performed the best, posting a .303 batting average with four doubles, two triples and a home run in 76 trips to the plate. He plated eight teammates and scored 12 times, while also compiling a .365 on-base percentage.
Should Rodríguez make the team this will mark the first time a Cuban player signs a developmental contract with Chunichi and debuts with the first team. The young infielder looks like a find for the team from the land of the rising sun.
