According to our colleague Francys Romero’s sources from Beisbol FR, Cuban prospect Alejandro Cruz is expected to sign with the Chicago White Sox for around $2 million when a new the international signing period opens up next January.
Cruz was declared a free agent this January, so he is already eligible to sign. However, the wait of a few months for his official signature is due to the White Sox budget in the next international period, this agreement in principle figures to be a big economic windfall for the young Cuban.

The infielder was part of the Cuban U-15 team at the 2022 World Cup that finished second during that tournament in Mexico. The native of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba was selected as the the best third baseman of the all-tournament after hitting .455 with a double, a triple and five RBIs.
Cruz has great potential, before leaving the country he played the U-18 National Championship with his province (which was stopped due to lack of fuel) where he hit .337 with eight extra bases (6 2B and 2 3B), stole 10 bases and drove in 12 runs for the Gallos.
The talented Cruz has good tools, but they need development. He possesses the good raw power, speed, and a rocket arm, but must show more consistency with the bat and the glove. According to Francys Romero’s own Beisbol FR website, Cruz was ranked as Cuba’s third best U-15 prospect this year.
