Lourdes Gurriel Jr stays hot in Arizona’s win. (+ MLB Report)

Lourdes Gurriel Jr has started the season swing hot lumber. In yesterday’s contest the outfielder went 2-for-4 with two runs batted and a run scored in Arizona’s 5-1 win over Colorado. The slugger is not only hitting .471, but has also knocked in 10 runs in the young campaign.

Randy Arozarena went yard for the second day in a row and drove in a run, but his best efforts couldn’t save Tampa from taking a 9-2 thrashing at the hands of Toronto. The diminutive but powerful outfielder is now hitting a robust .357 to start the season.

Vladimir Gutierrez made his season debut by pitching four strong innings in Miami’s loss to the Pirates. The right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba gave up three earned runs, but fanned four for the fish. With all the injures on the team’s pitching staff expect Gutierrez to play a key role for Miami in the early season.
