Adolfo Miranda: “For me it is an honor to be compared to Jorge Soler.”

Three days ago the New York Mets officially signed 17-year-old Cuban outfielder Adolfo Miranda for the sum of 10K. The young slugger has drawn comparisons to a young Jorge Soler because of their physical similarities at the that age.

The young slugger is approximately 6’2 and weighs 190 pounds. Although he needs to polish his game a little and get some seasoning, the native of Havana has a lot of raw physical tools. Miranda had only been in the Dominican Republic for two days when I saw him for the first time three years.

On that date the kid from Cuba’s capital showed me enormous power and has the possibility of becoming a five-tool player. Expect Miranda to begin his career in the Dominican Summer League. Where he advances from there is up to him.

After a long time looking for a signature you achieved it, how does that make you feel?

First of all, I want to thank God for everything. I also want to thank my parents and my coaches, both from the Dominican Republic and from Cuba. They are the ones who have always believed in my talent and made me feel proud of myself. I now see that all my sacrifice was worth it.

You have been compared to Jorge Soler because of the similarities in your physique at your age. Do you feel pressure to show results because of that comparison?

For me it is an honor to be compared to Soler physically, that inspires me to continue working harder to be physically and mentally prepared to give my best to my team.

Give me the difference between your training in the Dominican Republic in comparison to Cuba?

The training methods here in the Dominican Republic help you become a better version of yourself compared to those in Cuba. Here you work harder on the physical part and also on technique. In DR there are more resources and everyone is closer to the MLB system.

At what level will you start your career?

I am prepared for the challenge, but I will more than likely start from scratch since I must acquire experience and seasoning within professional baseball.

Give me a goal that you have for this season?

Well, the goal is to be better than I was in previous years, try to adapt as quickly as possible to professional baseball. Since this is something new for me and I want to advance as fast as possible through the minors until I reach the big leagues, since this is every player’s dream.
