The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up Cuban OF/INF Miguel Vargas to the big leagues once again, according to our colleague Francys Romero. As of now it isn’t certain when the young Cuban will be activated.
In 39 games this season he is slashing .295/.436/.583/1.019, with 41 hits in 139 at-bats, 14 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, eight doubles, 34 walks and 38 RBIs at Oklahoma City (AAA).
After debuting in the major leagues in 2022, the 24-year-old from Havana won a job with Dodgers out of spring training in 2023. Over 83 games during the season he hit .195 with seven longballs, 32 runs batted in with a slash line of .305/.367/.672.
Vargas becomes the 24th Cuban to see action in the big leagues this year. Due to his versatility on defense the infielder could be a helpful addition to the team. With the call-up of Andy Pagés the team will have two young Antilleans in its lineup in the very near future.
