With the season ending injury to Ronald Acuña, the Atlanta Braves have decided to call up outfielder Julio Pablo Martínez. The outfielder debuted in MLB last season with the Texas Rangers hitting .225 in 17 games.
Martínez will be the third Cuban to see action with the Atlanta Braves this season in MLB after Raisel Iglesias and Daysbel Hernández, he will also become the 26th Cuban to grace the majors on the campaign. He will also be the 25th Cuban to wear the Braves uniform in their history, in 2021 Guillermo Heredia and Jorge Soler (MVP World Series) were champions with this organization.
In 45 games this season with the Gwinnett Stripers in Triple A, he hit .265 , with nine home runs, two triples, three home runs, 14 stolen bases and 12 RBIs. Martínez is one of the two Guantanamo natives in MLB system, the other is Ramses Velázquez of the San Diego Padres.
