Infielder Cesar Prieto (25) was named the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league player of the month for May. In 24 games in Triple-A with the Memphis Redbirds, Prieto slashed .274/.343/.537. He ranked top 3 within the Cardinals’ farm system in extra-base hits (14), home runs (5), OPS (.880), slugging percentage (.537), and total bases (51).
In May, Prieto had seven multi-hit games and 26 total hits. During the six-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers from May 14-19, he went 11-for-23 (.478) with three doubles, one home run, and seven RBIs.
2024 marks Prieto’s first full season with the Cardinals. He joined last season after being traded from the Baltimore Orioles. This season, Prieto’s power has improved significantly, as he has hit nine home runs in 50 games. In his previous two seasons, he hit 10 and 11 home runs in over 100 games each year.With his impressive performance, Prieto is eyeing his MLB debut this year.
