The best Nicaraguan pitching prospect in the minors Carlos Rodríguez, will fulfill his dream and is set to be called up to the majors by the Milwaukee Brewers. According to the colleague Francys Romero the pitcher will debut Tuesday against the Bluejays. Rodríguez is the son of the Cuban left-handed pitcher of the same name that pitched for the Metropolitanos team of the Serie Nacional in the 1990s before settling in Nicaragua.
Rodríguez, who is a pitcher for the national team and pitched in the WBC becomes the first Nicaraguan to debut in the big leagues since Jonathan Loaisiga did in 2018. The hurler becomes the 16th player from the country to see action in the best baseball in MLB. The right-hander was Nicaragua’s starting pitcher against Puerto Rico in the World Classic and in four innings he only allowed one run. That game ended 9-1 in favor of the Puerto Ricans after Nicaragua’s relief pitching was hit hard.
For his career in the minors, he has a record of 19 wins and 16 losses with an excellent ERA of 3.41. In 298.2 innings on the mound he has struck out 353 rivals and sports a 1.14 WHIP, demonstrating his excellent control. On the season Rodríguez has a 4-5 record and a 5.17 earned run average in 62 ⅔ of work, while also 66 strikeouts over that span at Nashville (AAA).
“Now with the the velocity I have I can pitch in the Major Leagues, but I have to dominating my 95-96 Mph fastball. When I make my debut and my family is there, I don’t care who the rival is. I’m definitely going to give my all to represent Nicaragua,” this is what Carlos told to our sister page Pelota Cubana before the campaign.
