Victor Mesa Jr to miss the rest of the season.

Victor Mesa Jr. will not play any more baseball for the remainder of the season after being placed on the 60-day injured list by the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. On July 28, in his first at-bat against the Baltimore Orioles at the level (Norfolk Tides), he had to leave the game after taking a swing and hurting his back, something that in the end was not aa minor as first thought.

Very hard news for Víctor Mesa Jr and the Cuban community that wanted to see him in MLB this year. A good season for the outfielder is coming to an end, although with a bad taste in his mouth since he was very close to debuting. His numbers in the month of July were not all that good after hitting just .125 (40 AB; 5 H)  with three RBIs, a couple of walks and a couple of strikeouts. Even so, the 22-year-old was having an outstanding season with 29 XBH (15 2B, 1 3B and 13 HR) and 51 RBIs.

Mesa Jr. signed in October 2018 with the Miami Marlins and since then he has played five seasons in the Minors, he debuted this season at Triple A at 22 years of age and after the Marlins’ abundant changes he was one of the main options to came up to the Major Leagues in this same 2024.

The organization’s current number 9 prospect will have to recover from the injury and enter 2025 with the same objectives of reaching the Big Show. In the current season, 29 Cubans have seen action in the Major Leagues and this Saturday Pedro León will debut with the Houston Astros to reach the figure of 30 in 2024.
