Although the Astros fell to the Rays 6-1, Pedro León saw his first action as a major leaguer collecting a hit in three trips to the plate. His appearance made him the 30th Cuban to grace an MLB field this season and 390th in island history to play on the grand stage.
Yandy Díaz went yard for the 10th time on the season, drove in a run and scored twice for the victorious Floridians. The infielder has now knocked in 50 runs on the season. Díaz also saw his average rise to .276 on the campaign.
Aroldis Chapman secured his 16th hold of the season after striking out the side in Pittsburgh’s 4-2 win over Arizona. The flamethrowing lefty has now retired 67 batters via the strikeout in 41⅔ innings pitched this season and sports a 1.29 ERA over his last seven games.
Yennier Cano tossed a scoreless ninth in which he struck out a batter to earn his fifth save of the season in Orioles’ 7-4 triumph over Cleveland. The native of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba has now saved two games in his last seven appearances and has a 1.50 earned run average over that span.
