Yadiel Hernández hit his first career homer in the playoffs of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, a sixth inning solo-shot off his countrymen Darién Núñez to help secure a Dos Laredos 4-3 win over Monclova. The Tecolotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their playoff series with the Acereros.
Greg Veliz made his playoff debut by striking out one of the three batters he faced during Aguascalientes’ 3-1 loss to Monterrey. The hurler of Cuban descent did not allow a run and has also been one of the Rieleros’ most consistent relievers over the last month of the season.
Yoán López continued his dominance out the bullpen into the postseason. The right-hander from the Isle of Youth tossed a scoreless inning in relief during Unión Laguna’s 5-4 extra-inning win over Tijuana. The hard-throwing right-hander also fanned a batter and the defending Zona Norte champions took a 1-0 in their playoff series.
