Cuban left-hander Julio Robaina recorded his first victory in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League after an excellent work (5IP,3 H,1ER,2BB,4K) against Águilas de Zulia who fell to the Leones del Caracas 9-5 in the Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium. The hurler saw his ERA descend to 5.23 on the season.
Leonys Martín went yard for the first time on the season, a three-run shot in the sixth inning and also scored twice to lead La Guaira in their 10-6 win over Lara. The outfielder saw his average rise to .273 and now has 6RBIs on the campaign. Yasiel Puig added a hit in five trips and scored a run to help the cause.
In the LIDOM, Henry Urrutia swatted two hits in four trips to the plate to continue his hot start to the season, while also knocking in a run and scoring on an occasion. The slugger, who was the league’s batting champion in 2022 is now hitting a robust .367 on the campaign.
In México Víctor Labrada launched two longballs in five at-bats, drove in two runs and scored twice to lead Guasave in their 9-4 thrashing of Los Mochis. His teammate and countrymen also knocked in a run and scored on an occasion to aid the cause. The two Cubans now hit .286 and .244 respectively on the campaign.
