José Barrero knocks in five and the Estrellas romp in Choque de Gigantes.

José Barrero collected three hits in four trips to the plate, while also knocking in five runs during an Estrellas Orientales 10-1 thrashing of the Cardenales de Lara. The Cuban infielder had easily his best day of the winter and also scored on an occasion to pace the redbirds.

Yanquiel Fernández homered on opening night in the LBPRC and drove in a run, while also scoring a run, but Ponce fell to Carolina 8-4. The Colorado Rockies’ prospect opened up the winter with a longball for the second season in a row with the Leones.

In México Víctor Labrada also went yard and swatted a triple to drive in two runs to do his part in Guasave’s 4-0 shutout of the Águilas de Mexicali. The native of Havana has now hit three homers and watched his rise to .227 on the season. The outfielder will need to pick up the offensive slack in Yadir Drake’s absence due to his participation in the Premier 12.

In the LBPN Yordan Nodal tossed 5⅔ innings of four-hit, no-run ball, but he did not factor in Chinandega’s 14-11 extra-inning victory. In his two starts with the Tigres he sports a sterling 0.84 earned run average.
