José Abreu homers in his Winter League debut. (+Cuban Winter League Report)

José Abreu went yard in his second winter league at-bat, a two-run inning shot,but the Senadores de San Juan fell to Mayagüez 10-5 in the LBPRC. The first baseman who is looking to catch on with an MLB ballclub this spring leaves his first winter league game with a .250 average.

Although he took the loss, Miguel Romero was masterful. The right-hander from Guantánamo, Cuba tossed six innings in which he gave up a run via four hits and struck out nine during 3-0 loss to Margarita. The Tiburones were no-hit on the evening and Romero saw his ERA descend to 5.60 on the season in the LVBP.

In Nicaragua Alay Lago and Francisco Martínez combined for three hits and four runs batted in to lead El Tren del Norte to a 11-2 thrashing of the Leones de León. The two Cuban sluggers now hit .333 and .286 respectively on the campaign. El Tren evened it’s record to 2-2 on the young season.
