Miguel Romero tossed five innings of two-hit, one-run ball in Rivas’ 4-3 loss to León. The right-hander who made his first start in the Nicaraguan league also fanned three, but the Gigantes’ bullpen could not hold the lead for defending league champions in the first game of their doubleheader.
In the second game of the twin-billing Lázaro Alonso swatted his fifth longball of the season to go along with three runs batted in to do his part in a Gigantes 9-4 thrashing of the Leones. The slugger from Pinar del Río, Cuba has now driven in 15 runs on the campaign. Yosmany Guerra also added an RBI and run scored to help the cause.
Germán Mesa ‘s crew now spots a 8-15 record which puts them three games of the pace for the last Round Robin spot in the LBPN. If team does not qualify for the post season expect a lot of their players to be taken in the reinforcement draft for the postseason.
