Raidel Martínez earned his seventh save of the year after tossing a scoreless inning in relief during the Yomiuri Giants’ 2-0 win over the Chunichi Dragons at the Tokyo Dome. The righty also fanned a batter maintained his ERA at 0.00. Martínez is now third in Central in saves.
In his outing, Martínez threw a total of 16 pitches, 11 of them strikes, while also continuing to demonstrate his command on the mound. At this point last year, he only had four saves, so a strong season is on the horizon for the Cuban flamethrower.
He now has seven saves in seven save opportunities, with eight strikeouts, four walks. The Pinar del Río native’s WHIP is at 0.92 for his career, making him one of the most dominant reliever of the last five seasons in Japanese baseball.
