This morning morning the General Management of the Chunichi Dragons announced that they had promoted Villa Clara,Cuba native Christian Rodríguez to the first team. This is undoubtedly another big opportunity for the Cuban, who already knows what it’s like to play in the Japanese Professional Baseball League, having made his debut on Opening Day of last season.
Last season for the first team, Rodríguez played in 21 games, where he had seven hits in 54 at-bats with one RBI and three runs scored. In those 21 games, he had a total of 33 attempts in the field, committing four errors, and had a .955 fielding percentage. The Cuban has dazzled all of the Nagoya organization’s management with his excellent hands and great range.
To open this campaign in the Dragons top minor league club the Rodríguez was hitting a robust .400 to go along with a longball, five runs batted in and was slashing .400/.368/.768. The 23-year-old looks like the future shortstop for Cuba in the upcoming World Baseball Classic and has a added some muscle to his build this offseason.
