Raidel Martínez notched his 30th save of the year after striking out two of the three batters he faced in a perfect inning of relief during the Yomiuri Giants’ 2-0 win over the Chunichi Dragons at Nagoya’s Vantelin Dome.
The right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba has now racked up four consecutive seasons with at least 30 saves and also lowered his ERA to 0.96 on the season. The flamethrowing Cuban is now fours saves short of 200 for his career in the Japanese circuit.
In the KBO Guillermo Heredia collected two hits in three trips to the plate and knocked in two runs during SSG’s 5-5 tie with the the Kiwoom Heroes. The outfielder saw his average rise to .307 and has now knocked in 24 runs on the campaign.
In the CPBL Roenis Elías suffered his eighth loss of the season during the Fubon Guardians, 9-1 loss to the Rakuten Monkeys in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). The game took place at the Taipei Dome and was attended by 15,012 fans. Elías tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs, five of them earned.
He also retired four batters on strikes and didn’t issue any walks. The left-hander threw 113 pitches to the plate, 82 of which were strikes (72.6%). This performance represented a setback for the Cuban, who had pitched at a high level in his recent outings and added two wins to his record.
