Left-hander Julio Robaina will be available for Cuba in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Here are the two other pitchers that also made themselves available yesterday,,RHP Jorge Marcheco (LA Angels) and LHP Daviel Hurtado (NY Mets) have also said they will be available. This is also coming off the announcement made by RHP Yunior Tur (Oakland Athletics) two days ago about his availability.
Robaina who pitched for the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association, the Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol and the Algodoneros de Guasave of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico posted a 4-8 record and a 4.12 earned run average in both leagues combined. In 87.1 innings pitched he fanned 86 and sported a 1.45 WHIP.
Tur on the other hand is on the cusp of making his Major League debut with the Oakland Athletics. The right-hander from Santiago de Cuba had a 3.29 earned run average in 30 starts between A-AAA in 2025. The hurler in armed with a near triple digit fastball and an above-average array of breaking pitches that could put him in the island’s rotation for upcoming tournament. The addition of Tur paired with Liván Moinelo, Lázaro Estrada and the possibility of Yariel Rodríguez would give Cuba a solid four in their rotation
In the case of Marcheco (5-7,4.36) and Daviel Hurtado (1-2,2.06) would give Cuba two more live arms in their bullpen that are within a major league and have a big upside. Expect more young arms and promising players, including a few Cuban-Americans to declare their intentions to play for Cuba in the near future upping the level of talent for island’s national team and possibly making it one of the most talented to grace the field in the tournament.
