Yadir Drake swatted three hits in four at-bats, including a fifth inning solo-shot to give the Águilas de Mexicali a 1-0 nothing lead in a game the eventually won 3-2 to open up their playoff series with the Yaquis de Ciudad Obregón. The slugger from Matanzas, Cuba also scored on the evening and now hits .750 after one game in the postseason.
For the losing Yaquis Odrisamer Despaigne was solid on the mound although he did not factor in the decision. The Cuban right-hander tossed six innings of five-hit, two-run and struck out a batter to leave his first playoff start of the winter with a 2.84 earned run average.
Víctor Labrada collected two hits in six trips to the plate including a fifth inning run-scoring single to do his part in Guasave’s 18-4 win over the Jaguares de Nayarit in the opening round of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico postseason. The outfielder also scored twice and the Algodoneros now lead the series 1-0 .
