The Spring Breakout is an exhibition series where the top minor league prospects from each MLB organization face off against each other. This is the perfect opportunity to see the players who will dominate Major League Baseball in the coming years. The event will take place from Thursday, March 19th to Sunday, March 22nd.
Showcased in this series will be top prospects such as Sal Stewart Jr, Lázaro Montes, Kendry Rojas, Yandel Ricardo, Kevin Álvarez,George Lombard Jr and Yohandy Morales. These prospects are all very heralded by their ballclubs.
Stewart Jr made his MLB debut last season and could be a contender for the rookie of the year. Flamethrowing lefty Kendry Rojas could debut this year with the Minnesota Twins. George Lombard Jr is the Yankees #1 prospect and could unseat Anthony Volpe if the shortstop stumbles to open the season.
Cuban-American Yohandy Morales had a big winter with Santurce and raked at this year’s Serie del Caribe. Morales will start the season in the high minors for the team from the nation’s capital. Lázaro Montes, who slugged 32 homeruns last year in the minors could possibly make the jump from AA with a good showing.
