Yordan Álvarez connected on his league leading 11th homerun of the season against Tanner Bibee, a two-run shot in the first inning of Houston’s 2-0 blanking of Cleveland. The Cuban slugger is hitting .347 and also leads MLB with 26 runs batted in on the campaign.
Randy Arozarena laced a run-scoring double in the bottom of the first inning amongst his two hits to do his part in Seattle’s 5-4 victory over the Athletics. The speedy outfielder has now driven in 10 runs and sports a robust .804 OPS on the year.
Miguel Vargas homered for his third straight game, his fifth longball on the season during the White Sox’s 11-7 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The infielder also scored three times on the day and has also solid .434 slugging percentage on the campaign.
Nolan Arenado had a perfect night for the Diamondbacks in a losing cause, collecting four hits in as many at-bats including a two-run homerun. The third baseman in total drove in three runs and scored three times to see his average rise to .263 on the season.
Nick Martínez tossed a eight innings of five hit one run ball in which he also fanned six hitters during Tampa Bay’s 6-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cuban-American righty saw his earned run average descend to 2.10 on the young season.
Yandy Díaz also got in on the act with three hits in four trips to the plate and also knocked in a run via a single in the second inning to see his average rise to .347 and has now driven in 18 runs on the year leaving him in the top 10 in the majors in that statistical category.
