Yordan Álvarez wins the Player of the Month in the American League.

Yordan Álvarez was named Player of the Month for March/April after posting a slash line of .356/.462/.737/1.199, with 9 doubles, 12 home runs, 27 RBIs, 21 walks, and 25 runs scored. During that stretch, the Cuban slugger led MLB in OBP, slugging percentage, OPS, and total bases (87), while also tying for the league lead in home runs. In the American League, he ranked first in batting average and extra-base hits (21).

This is the third American League Player of the Month award of Yordan Álvarez’s career, adding to four other American League Player of the Week honors; he was also named American League Rookie of the Month for three consecutive months in 2019 (June–August).

Álvarez was named Player of the Week in the American League for the second week of the current season. The Astros slugger took home the honors following a phenomenal start that included a slash line of .471/.615/1.118/1.733, with three home runs, eight RBIs, and seven runs scored in 26 plate appearances. Álvarez also drew seven walks from opposing pitchers while striking out just three times.

During the evaluation period (March 30 to April 5), Yordan led all of Major League Baseball in fWAR (0.8), isolated power (.647), on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS+, and wRC+ (338). Furthermore, he also led the American League in batting average and home runs and 66.7% of his batted balls had an exit velocity exceeding 95 mph—a category in which he also topped the entire league.
