Yandy Díaz collected four hits in five trips, while also knocking in four runs via a second inning single and a sixth inning double to lead the Rays to a 16-6 thrashing of the Baltimore Orioles. Díaz saw his average rise to .310 and now has two games with at least four hits on the season.
Aroldis Chapman notched his 11th save of the year and the 378th of his career after tossing a scoreless inning during which he fanned a batter to helped secure a Boston Red Sox’s 3-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. The flamethrowing left-hander saw his earned run average to descend to 0.54 on the campaign.
Kendry Rojas made his first start of the season and although the lefty did not factor in the decision he pitched exceptionally. The native of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba tossed four scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and struck out three batters in Minnesota’s 6-3 win over the Astros. The Cuban hurler now sports a 1.59 earned run average on the year.
Sal Stewart went yard for the 11th time on the season and scored twice, but the Cincinnati Reds still fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4. The Cuban-American slugger has now driven 32 runs on the season placing him first amongst all rookies in the Major Leagues.
Zach Neto went yard for the eighth time on the season, a walk-off two-run homerun in three at-bats to command the Angels’ 2-1 victory over the Athletics. The Cuban-American infielder upped his runs batted in total to 22 on the season.
Nolan Arenado launched his seventh homerun of the season, a first inning grand slam to pace the Diamondbacks offense in the team’s 12-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. The third baseman, who is having a career resurrection has now driven in 25 runs on the campaign.
