Three Cubans have been selected to participate in the Mexican Baseball League All-Star Game will represent Team Mexico in the event’s format of Aztecs vs. The World. All three players compete in the league as native players. The game is scheduled for June 28th of this year in Walmart Park in Monterrey, México.
Henry Urrutia, DH (Conspiradores de Querétaro), Albert Lara, IF (Algodoneros de Unión Laguna), Maikel Serrano, OF (Rieleros de Aguascalientes) will be the three players representing the the largest of the Antilles in the Mexican mid-season classic. Serrano and Lara will be making their first appearances in the game, while Urrutia is selected to the contest for the third time.
Urrutia is having a resurgence after having an off-year last season with the wood. The Cuban slugger is hitting a solid .428, while also going yard seven times and driving in 36 runs, leaving him amongst Cubans in the LMB in that statistical category. Urrutia is also second amongst all Cubans in México with 60 hits.
In Lara’s case, the young infielder is having a career year and coming into his own with the Unión Laguna during his first season with the ballclub. Lara is hitting a career high .342 and has driven in 29 runs to go along with seven homeruns and six stolen bases in 44 games on the campaign. Lara leads all Cuban in the circuit with 65 hits.
Serrano has been a blessing for Aguascalientes this season. The native of Pinar del Río, Cuba is hitting a career high .378 placing second in the league in that statistical category. The outfielder has also gone yard four times and driven in 19 runs on the campaign, while also placing third amongst Cuban in the LMB with 56 hits.
