With the next Cuban that is called up to the majors it will make three straight seasons with more than 30 Cubans seeing actions in the big leagues. This is extremely big considering Cuba has no ties with MLB. This includes a record 34 islanders seeing action on the grand stage in 2023.
This season a record seven Cuban born players saw action in the 2026, while eight Cubans were elected to the game in 2023. Only six players saw action in that midsummer classic, with Luis Robert Jr and Aroldis Chapman not playing in that contest.
Making the new record all the more astounding was the fact that only 29 Cuban-born players have appeared in an MLB game this season as statedearlier. Of those, it is a little bit less 25% made the All-Star Game, compared to around 5% of the general MLB population.
With the turbulent political culture in Cuba and a possible coming change on the communist island, expect the number of Cubans seeing action in the World’s best league. With the number of Cubans only rising every year also expect the country’s protagonism only to rise as well in Major League Baseball.
