Cuban prospect Kevin Álvarez delivered an outstanding performance in the Carolina League Championship Series at the Single-A level. The Matanzas native made his mark in the second game of the finals between the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, an affiliate of the Houston Astros, and the Charleston RiverDogs, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Houston’s Single-A affiliate captured the Carolina League title after defeating Charleston in two consecutive games. Fayetteville secured the championship with a 7–4 victory, with Álvarez making a significant offensive contribution.
The Cuban prospect led his team in hits (101), doubles (26), runs scored (69) and total bases (166), while ranking second in RBIs (57) and triples (3). Expect Álvarez to begin next season at higher level next season, presumably A+ ball.
Kevin Álvarez Ends 2026 With a Multi-Hit Game:
The young Cuban prospect closed his season with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers by delivering an excellent performance at the plate. Batting third and starting in center field, Álvarez recorded multiple hits in the final game of the 2026 Single-A postseason.
Álvarez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. He finished the postseason with a .333 batting average and a .722 OPS, going 5-for-15 with six RBIs and three runs scored overall.
Álvarez enjoyed an impactful offensive season, hitting 11 home runs and driving in 57 runs across 387 official at-bats. He also stole 17 bases, showcasing his speed on the basepaths.
The Cuban prospect concludes his first season with Houston’s Single-A affiliate after demonstrating both skill and maturity on the field. Álvarez advanced directly to this level after previously playing in the Dominican Summer League.
