Dayan Viciedo signed for the 2026 season with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars on a base salary of $600,000, plus incentives that could push the total to $900,000, per source reported the colleague Francys Romero a few days ago.The Cuban slugger signed with theo expand his legacy in the NPB. In limited action with the Japanese squad he hit .259 with two longballs and nine runs batted in on the campaign.
In September, Viciedo reached the milestone of 1,000 games played in Japanese baseball, an enormous number for any foreign player in that league. Now he’s preparing to play his eleventh season in Japan. With this season, the Villa Clara, Cuba native will tie the legendary Roberto “Chico” Barbón (1955–1965) as the only Cubans with more than ten seasons in the NPB. An achievement that very few have been able to reach.
For his career in the land of the rising sun the Cuban slugger slashes .287/.352/.458/.810 with over a thousand hits, 189 doubles, 141 homeruns and 555 runs batted in. This also includes a batting title in 2018 and three trips to the Nippon League All-Star Game (2016,2021,2022). Aside from Alfredo Despaigne and Orestes Destrade there has been no better Cuban with the lumber in the NPB. Viciedo has also seen action in the majors with the Chicago White Sox and in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol with Dos Laredos.
