Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth in which he retired two of the three batters he faced via the strikeout during Atlanta’s 6-5 victory over the Marlins to become only the fifth pitcher in Braves history to save 100 games for the team. The right-hander from the Isle of Youth has now saved 256 games in his career and has yet to allow a run in 6⅔ innings pitched on the season.
Jorge Soler went downtown for the fifth time on the season, a solo-shot in the first inning of the Angels 7-1 win over the Yankees. The power-hitting Cuban sports .850 OPS and has now knocked in 18 runs to lead the American League in that statistical category.
Yoán Moncada also got in on the act for the Angels by driving in three runs via a sixth inning two-run single and an eighth inning solo-homerun. After a slow start at the plate the infielder’s lumber is starting to heat up and has also now driven in seven runs on the season.
Sal Stewart Jr launched his fifth roundtripper of the season during the fourth inning to make the difference in Cincinnati’s 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. The Cuban-American now hits .310 and is starting to emerge as an early season candidate for the National League Rookie of the Year.
Yordan Álvarez laced a two-run third inning double in four at-bats to do his part in the Houston Astros 7-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The slugger also scored a run on the day and has also driven in 17 runs on the season placing him second in the American League in the statistical category.
