Cuba recently announced its roster for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games. The baseball portion of the tournament begin on July 31 and end on August 7th of this year. The island announced the roster earlier this month and will face a stiff challenge from México and Dominican Republic during the tournament.
The team will be predominantly made up of players who play in the Cuban Liga Élite/Serie Nacional. Very fue players ftom the team have outside experience which will shorthand them against the Dominican Republic who’s team will be made up of the LIDOM and México which will field its squad with players from the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.
The team’s pitching staff will feature Brander Guevara, Cuba’s top pitching prospect. Guevara pitched for the Conspiradores de Querétaro in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol this season. Yunieski García, who has seen action in Venezuela’s Liga Mayor and Armando Dueñas who also saw action in LMBP will head up tge team’s pitching staff.
The big names on the infield will be Yoel Yanqui and Henry Quintero whom both have been in an MLB minor league system, Quintero with Atlanta and Yanqui with Cincinnati and Arizona. Yanqui also saw action in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Luis Vicente Mateo has also seen action in Venezuela could be a key cog for the infield.
Yoelkis Guibert whom is considered the team star has played with Cuba in the last two WBC’s plus has seen plenty action in the Caribbean summer and winter leagues. Guibert is also a career .350 hitter in the Venezuelan summer league. Yasiel González is another key power bat for the team and has garnered plenty of interest from outside league. Andrys Pérez will be the primary catcher for the team and Andy Cosme will back him up.
